Campaign against drug and alcohol use among young people, to secure mental health in Burundi
Burundi NCD Alliance held a meeting with young people on risk of drug and alcohol take. It was a good moment for advocacy and accountability on consequences and complications experienced by the people who are consuming drugs and/or using harmful alcohol. Alcohol and Illicit drugs are never safe. They can affect the health, social life, work, school, friends and family. Drugs affect central nervous system of the user. As a young person, brain is still growing and won’t be fully formed until mid-20s. Then, taking drugs affects the developing brain by : damaging connections within the brain ; reducing your ability to experience pleasure or reward ; causing memory and learning problems ; making it hard to control impulses. Dr François Ndikumwenayo informed participant on the risk of taking drugs or alcohol, on its impact of health, on driving safely and scholar performances. Self accountability is required for each and other.
