Recognising the potential for the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR) and The UNION Asia Pacific Region (APR) to contribute to the SDG goals by bringing together the clinical expertise of their members and others who have implemented effective best practice models of primary care for the Big 5, this initiative has evolved into a continuing series of co-designed Workshops.

The inaugural workshop in 2022 brought together complementary expertise to explore and share important primary care models for the Big 5 lung diseases. The 2nd workshop, held at the APSR 2025 Congress in Manila, further strengthened regional collaboration and resulted in the continued development of practical resources and toolkits.

The 3rd Big 5 Lung Diseases Workshop will be held as a satellite event of the APSR 2026 Congress in Penang, Malaysia. The workshop will bring together clinicians, researchers, and stakeholders to share and discuss practical primary care models addressing the Big 5 lung diseases across the region.
