In the heart of Pakistan, where the call for change echoed through bustling hospital corridors, a dedicated nurse named Farhana Tabassum Siddique embarked on an extraordinary journey. It all began with a singular mission: “Diabetes-Nurses Make a Difference” and "Access to Diabetes Care." Little did she know that her path would lead her to the forefront of NCDs management and innovation, advocating passionately for a healthier Pakistan with resilient communities.
In 2021, when the world was focused on "Know your risk, Know your response," Farhana's determination to make a difference ignited a spark. She started with a group of like-minded healthcare professionals, determined to create a platform for nurses and community health workers. The journey was a rollercoaster, but their enthusiasm, commitment, and unwavering will forged ahead.
From a large group to a resilient ToR team, they continued their march. The challenges didn't deter them; instead, they fuelled their ambitions. In the end, only four dedicated members remained, but their resolve had never been stronger.
In 2023, after winning the national Idea Bank competition, Farhana's dream was within reach. Armed with the support of trusted friends Fouzia, Dr. Tehmina, Sadia & Khairu-Un-Nisa Khan, she now searches for a venue to launch her ground-breaking initiative. "Community Health Nurses-Led Diabetes & NCDs Related Health Issues Management" is poised to change the healthcare landscape in Pakistan.
Despite the odds and a lack of pharmaceutical industry investment in nurses in Pakistan, the demand for NCDs care and management training is undeniable. During a survey 100% of healthcare professionals, including nurses, have expressed the need for this training. Farhana's dream is no longer hers alone; it's a cry for help, a call to reduce the disease burden, lower healthcare costs, prevent complications, and elevate Pakistan's status in achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
This is a story of transformation, resilience, and hope—a nurse turned innovator, leading a small team towards a colossal mission for the greater good of her nation.
