Health Bridge Rwanda (HBR) joins the Global Week for Action on NCDs 2026 with a five-day digital campaign that puts Rwanda's own accountability culture to work on one of health's toughest questions: what does leadership actually deliver?

Under this year's global theme, Leadership in Focus: From Commitments to Delivery, HBR will use Imihigo, Rwanda's traditional pact for setting bold targets and being held to them, as a lens for interrogating national and global progress on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health. Each day pairs a genuine Rwandan achievement with an unresolved equity question, refusing easy celebration in favor of honest accountability.

The campaign opens by celebrating Rwanda's gains in universal health coverage through Mutuelles de Santé, then asks whether policy commitments are translating into district-level delivery. It moves to the fragmentation of care, calling for NCDs and mental health to be woven into primary healthcare rather than treated in silos. At its center, the campaign confronts the persistent equity gap: the same decentralized system that brought basic care within reach through Community Health Workers still leaves complex NCD care, insulin, diagnostics, and chronic disease management financially out of reach for many rural and low-income families. A day dedicated to lived experience insists that people living with NCDs and mental health conditions must co-design the care meant for them, not simply receive it.

The week closes by returning to Imihigo itself: a direct call to policymakers, funders, and civil society to set measurable targets and be accountable to them, the same way Rwandan institutions are.
