Organize Global Week for Action on NCDs with CNCDA’s members
In Cambodia, NCDs are a large and growing public health challenge. Non-communicable diseases kill nearly 60,000 Cambodians every year, representing 64% of all deaths in 2018(3). One in every four Cambodians (23%) dies prematurely, before the age of 70 years, from one of the four main NCDs. Cardiovascular disease is the most common NCD, causing 24%of all deaths followed by cancer (14%), chronic respiratory diseases (4%) and diabetes (2%)(4). Liver cancer is the most common type of cancer in Cambodia, followed by lung, breast and colorectum, and cervical cancer (5). The most common cancers in women are breast cancer followed by cervix, liver, colorectum, and lung cancer.
Prevalence of diabetes and hypertension in adults was 9.6% and 14.2%, respectively and 45% of adults aged 18 and over had raised total cholesterol, indicating consumption of diets with high levels of trans-and saturated fats and salt. Yet more than half of those who have these conditions reported that they were not receiving any treatment. Through Health Strategies Plan of Ministry of Health which mandate from 2023-2033, there are 4 strategies goals including 1) Promoting Health Peace, 2) Potential Health Services, 3) Increase Financial Risk Prevention and 4) Advanced quality and Friendliness. One among 4 goals mentioned about advanced quality and friendliness will response to the world patient's safety day. In this year, The slogan “Elevate the voice of patients!”, WHO calls on all stakeholders to take necessary action to ensure that patients are involved in policy formulation, are represented in governance structures, are engaged in co-designing safety strategies, and are active partners in their own care. This can only be achieved by providing platforms and opportunities for diverse patients, families, and communities to raise their voice, concerns, expectations and preferences to advance safety, patient-centeredness, trustworthiness, and equity.
We call on governments and heads of state to uphold their commitments to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare that they need, without risk of financial hardship, and regardless of where they live or who they are through round table discussion. CNCDA will also plan to share one each key message through FB, website as well as to inform about the event taking place as mentioned above.
